As the polar shift proceeded Each attended to what others needed. Elves even went to check on goblins they knew, And eventually many goblins gave gifts to elves too. That is how the giving of gifts Became a tradition throughout the North Pole. It was the first step in healing deep rifts And began to make broken communities whole. Not everything went smoothly. Some goblins behaved very rudely. There was even a faction of trolls Who attempted to take control Of the newly established capital. Still, slowly (though not as slowly as the rest of the world) The elven friends created an equitable society for all communities (in the plural) Which functioned on the foundation of generosity and care For each one’s neighbor in the Pole and everywhere. The North Pole came to have gifts so abundant Everyone who lived there was perfectly content. So they began to give presents To outside residents. First, to neighboring countries. Then to those who were in need. Eventually they spread the gifts of their society To everyone they could possibly reach. “Level snow Or high drifts blow” Came to be applied to the way they approached Their journeys from the North Pole. It was a phrase of determination To get gifts to the most difficult destinations So they might spread the culture of giving Throughout the world for all to see, So that others may come to believe In the power of gifts given freely.
